Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, September 11. On the 11th, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) held a press conference to introduce the relevant situation of the 2024 National Science Popularization Day activities.
It was introduced that the 2024 National Science Popularization Day activities are scheduled to be held from September 15 to 25, with the theme "Improving National Scientific Literacy and Jointly Building a Powerful Nation in Science and Technology". The event is jointly hosted by 21 departments including CAST, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The main activities include 3 key activities: "Thousands of Museums Exhibition Exploring the Future", "Ten Thousand Reports Discussing the Frontier", and "Millions of IP Creating Science Popularization"; 8 joint actions involving societies, science popularization bases, universities, enterprises, and parks; and main venue activities created by various departments, regions, and units.
Anchoring the goal of building a powerful nation in science and technology by 2035, the event will carry out multi-level and segmented frontier science popularization for university students, young scientific and technological workers, civil servants, and the general public. It will display China's scientific and technological innovation achievements from multiple angles, show the scientific spirit and the demeanor of scientific and technological workers behind innovation, promote the scientist spirit with patriotism as the background, inspire the pride and self-confidence of the whole society, and gather the majestic power to achieve high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement.
This year's activities have three characteristics.
First, highlighting openness and coordination. By promoting work through organized, networked, and socialized methods, the leading power, organizational power, and service power of this year's Science Popularization Day have been greatly improved. Joint hosting departments, member units of the Outline of the National Scheme for Scientific Literacy working office, and other ministries actively mobilized various innovation subjects such as universities, research institutes, parks, and enterprises, as well as grassroots organizations of science and technology associations at all levels. They linked up with science popularization bases such as local science and technology museums, science popularization education bases, museums, planetariums, national parks, geoparks, and community science popularization venues to carry out wide-coverage and diverse science popularization services. Among them, joint hosting departments and member units of the Outline Office gathered and recommended more than 300 key demonstration activities, and various central enterprises and universities actively promoted science popularization reports and base opening activities. Up to now, the National Science Popularization Day platform (www.kepuri.cn) has gathered more than 100,000 activities in various places, covering 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Hong Kong and Macau will also carry out nearly 40 key science popularization activities. The event has built a multi-party coordinated socialized science popularization pattern, building a high-quality science popularization service platform for scientific and technological workers, science popularization creators, and the general public.
Second, highlighting science popularization benefiting the people. Science popularization is integrated and innovated with science fiction, culture, art, tourism, and sports. Science popularization bazaars, science popularization dramas, light shows, experiment shows, science fiction painting exhibitions, science fiction film screenings, as well as Olympic science popularization, "Central Axis" science popularization, and exploration of the origins of Chinese civilization and other themed science popularization activities are competing to unfold. Science popularization services enter community streets, go deep into the grassroots frontline, and step into the fields, constantly enriching the scientific and cultural life of the masses. Many places will release a series of science popularization routes and check-in maps. This year's Science Popularization Day coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. Many venues and parks have also meticulously created special activities such as Technology Lighting up the Mid-Autumn Moon, Science Popularization Garden Party, "Science Popularization Night", "Science Night", stargazing, science popularization bazaars, and stage plays, bringing a brand-new holiday experience to the masses. The main venue of the National Science Popularization Day will be held at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology and the China Science and Technology Museum. There will be special exhibitions such as Emerging Technology Assisting Development, Scientist Spirit Shining over Nine Provinces, Civilization Fire Passing on Forever, and Youth Serving the Country at the Right Time, as well as high-level frontier science popularization reports, Scientists and Teenagers Building the Future Together & Attending a Science Class Together, "Light of Civilization" stage play and other series of wonderful activities.
Third, highlighting the combination of online and offline. Science Popularization China teamed up with multiple platforms to launch a new topic #Millions of IP Creating Science Popularization# to initiate the creation, collection, and display of excellent online science popularization works. As of August 12, 1.55 million science popularization contents such as videos, graphics, and science popularization Q&As have been collected, with a total dissemination volume of 1.92 billion. Localities are also actively promoting "Cloud Science Popularization Day", organizing a series of online activities such as cloud lecture halls, cloud exhibitions, and cloud releases through live streaming, short videos, museum exploration, VR, etc., creating a cloud science popularization carnival with hot spots every day and uninterrupted excitement. CAST also produced and gathered more than 10,000 types of information resources such as science popularization graphics, videos, display boards, and wall charts, opening and sharing them to various places through Science Popularization China and the National Science Popularization Day platform, promoting frontier science popularization resources to reach the grassroots frontline directly.
