The Hong Kong Science Popularization and Science Fiction Education Centre is dedicated to providing quality science popularization and science fiction education courses, activities, and competitions for students and the public, promoting technological innovation and cultural development.

Courses

We are an education team composed of senior scientists, science writers, and science fiction enthusiasts, committed to providing quality science popularization and science fiction education courses for students and the public. Our goal is to cultivate scientific literacy and creativity, and to promote technological innovation and cultural heritage.

Our courses cover multiple fields including fundamental science, cutting-edge technology, and science fiction literature, aiming to spark students' interest in science and enhance their logical thinking and innovation capabilities.

Activities

We regularly organise various science popularization and science fiction activities, including lectures, workshops, and reading groups.

Honours & Awards: The Hong Kong Science Popularization and Science Fiction Education Centre was honoured with the "Ke Lei Cup" Best Organisation Award at the 8th Shenzhen (International) Science and Technology Film Week and the 14th China International Science Education Film Festival and Producers Annual Conference.

Hong Kong Science Fiction Culture Education Programme: This is an educational programme jointly initiated by a group of science enthusiasts, science popularization and science fiction writers, and education experts. It aims to provide science knowledge and science fiction culture enlightenment and cultivation for students and the public in Hong Kong through science popularization and science fiction, promoting innovative thinking and multicultural exchange and integration.

Competitions

We host and organise multiple high-level science competitions, providing a stage for young people to showcase their talents.

Major Events:

  • Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge: The 2025 Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge (Hong Kong Selection) was successfully held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 7 July 2025, hosted by the Hong Kong Science Popularization and Science Fiction Education Centre and organised by the Yau Tsim Mong Charity Foundation. This event was funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission.
  • Hong Kong-Macau Selection: The 2024 "Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge (Hong Kong-Macau Selection)" was organised by HKSPSF in response to the national competition series co-hosted by the Chinese Institute of Electronics and the Chinese Society of Oceanography.

Exchange

Science Popularization & Science Fiction Exchange: We are committed to promoting exchanges and visits across technology, education, culture, and academic fields between different communities. Our goal is to break down barriers and promote mutual understanding and cooperation across various disciplines. We regularly organise cross-border student and teacher visits, academic seminars, and cultural exchange tours.

Study Tours

Science Popularization & Science Fiction Study Tours: These are educational activities combining science popularization and science fiction culture, aimed at enhancing students' and the public's scientific literacy and creativity, as well as their understanding of and interest in technology and culture, through research and practice. We take students beyond the classroom to visit research institutions, high-tech enterprises, and nature reserves for field study.

Exhibitions

Science Popularization & Science Fiction Exhibitions: With themes centred on technology, science popularization, and science fiction, our exhibitions offer audiences a comprehensive opportunity to explore these fields. We have organised multiple themed exhibitions showcasing the latest technological achievements and classic science fiction works, allowing the public to experience the charm of science up close.
