Hong Kong Science Popularization and Science Fiction Academy (HKSPSF) and Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival recently announced an important cooperation plan:

Starting from the 6th edition, HKSPSF will become a special supporting organization of the Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival, responsible for work solicitation and event promotion in the Hong Kong region. This cooperation not only marks the commitment of both parties to the inheritance and innovation of science fiction culture but will also further promote the prosperity and development of the Chinese science fiction field.

Since its establishment, Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival has been an important display platform for Chinese science fiction films. Starting from 2024, HKSPSF will be responsible for soliciting entries from the Hong Kong region and promoting relevant events in Hong Kong. In addition, our center will also introduce excellent Blue Planet science fiction films, television, and animation works from previous years to Hong Kong citizens, thereby stimulating public interest and enthusiasm for science fiction.

Hong Kong's Science Fiction Narrative Have Never Been Interrupted

Hong Kong has a long tradition of science fiction literature. From the launch of Zhao Zifan's "Space Adventure" in 1954, through the popularity of Ni Kuang's "Wisely" series, to the emergence of sci-fi masters such as Cheung Kwan-mok, Huang Yi, and Albert Tam, and finally to the publication of Yin Guang's "Hong Kong Memory Puzzle" released at Blue Planet at the end of last year, this continuous science fiction tradition has also been vividly reflected in the Hong Kong film industry.

From "The Robo Force" directed by Tsui Hark to "Warriors of Future" led by Louis Koo, it fully demonstrates the continuous exploration and unremitting efforts of Hong Kong filmmakers in the field of science fiction.

Integration and Co-creation

In March of this year, the 6th Global Call for Entries of Blue Planet was launched in Hong Kong with the theme of "Integration and Co-creation". This event invited filmmakers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong to discuss the future development path of Chinese science fiction films, aiming to create more opportunities for cooperation in Chinese science fiction films and build a cross-regional exchange platform.

With the unfolding of the cooperation between the two parties, Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival will better serve science fiction enthusiasts and creators in Hong Kong and even the entire Chinese-speaking region. At the same time, the cooperation between the two parties will not be limited to the competition itself but will also involve a wider range of science popularization and science fiction education exchange activities, injecting new vitality into Hong Kong's scientific and technological innovation and promoting science popularization to become an important part of Hong Kong's innovative development.
