The main competition section of the 6th Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival focuses on evaluating sci-fi and fantasy short films while also recommending outstanding sci-fi feature films.
Every year, Blue Planet strives to surpass itself, and this year, we aim to become "the world's first film festival that explicitly welcomes AI co-creation"!
Initiated by research institutions, Blue Planet is a sci-fi themed festival where creation and integration are embedded in its DNA. From using self-developed intelligent perception technology for the "STAR Awards" to introducing virtual production into sci-fi film investment, and from holding AIGC (Artificial Intelligence Generated Content) image exhibitions to launching the "New Species" competition and AI future training programs, Blue Planet is always at the forefront of AI technology collaboration and exploration.
Last year's theme was "Generating the Future," and in the past six months, AIGC image generation technology has advanced rapidly. AI's role in film production now spans scriptwriting, special effects, and post-production. For Blue Planet, there is no reason to reject sci-fi works created through human-AI collaboration, reflecting the inherent inclusivity and openness of science fiction.
Hong Kong Science Popularization and Science Fiction Academy (HKSPSF), as a special supporter of this event, will fully support the 6th Blue Planet Science Fiction Film Festival. We will provide resources, assist in promoting the event, and actively participate in the various activities of the film festival. Together, we aim to promote the integration of science fiction and education, inspiring more people to engage in and create sci-fi works.
We look forward to participating in and witnessing the evolution and transformation of cinematic art through human-AI integration.
Film Submission Requirements
1. Direction
- Genre: Primarily sci-fi and fantasy films, including sci-fi, fantasy, and surreal settings. Both feature films and short films are eligible.
- Art: Sci-fi art image videos, including sci-fi installation art shorts, fantasy game videos, and future technology concept videos.
2. Format
- All types of visual works meeting the above criteria, including live-action films, animated films, and game videos.
3. Duration
- Feature films: Over 60 minutes
- Short films: 60 minutes or less
4. Submission Period and Scope
- The submitted films/series need to be those that are produced between January 2023 and September 2024.
5. Film Format
- MOV, MP4, with a minimum resolution of 1080P.
6. Projection Format
- DCP
7. Submission Deadline
- October 31, 2024
Special Note:
Encouragement is given to short films that incorporate AI-generated content, provided that they do not infringe on intellectual property rights or other legal regulations. The choice of creation methods and tools will not affect the judging results. Participants are encouraged to provide explanations for any AIGC sections used.
