I. Background Introduction
The "Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge" is an activity integrating technological imagination, innovation, and creation hosted by the Chinese Institute of Electronics and the Chinese Society of Oceanography. To promote science popularization in Hong Kong and Macau and facilitate exchanges and cooperation between Hong Kong, Macau, and the Mainland, the HKSPSF, entrusted by the Organizing Committee of the National Competition of the Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge, organizes the "Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge (Hong Kong & Macau Selection)" (hereinafter referred to as the Hong Kong & Macau Selection) in Hong Kong and Macau. The Hong Kong & Macau Selection will finally select excellent teams representing Hong Kong and Macau to participate in the National Finals of the Underwater Unmanned Systems Challenge of the National Youth Information Literacy Competition held in August 2024. The finals of the Hong Kong & Macau Selection will concurrently hold the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Celebration of Return Exchange Competition", inviting teams from cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Hong Kong for scientific and technological exchange activities to jointly celebrate the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.
II. Challenge Mechanism
This year's competition is themed "Antarctic Scientific Expedition", focusing on unmanned systems for marine applications, such as Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV), and Biometric Underwater Robots (BUR), with underwater unmanned systems as the core. Participating students need to pass both theoretical and practical tests. The goal is to stimulate young people's interest in marine science and technology, impart scientific methods, build systematic thinking, convey the scientist spirit, and discover and cultivate future innovative talents in unmanned systems and smart oceans.
III. Activity Process
-
The competition is conducted in teams. Each team in the Hong Kong & Macau Selection consists of 3-5 students and 1 instructor. It is divided into the Senior Primary Section (P4 to P6) and the Junior Secondary Section (S1 to S3).
