According to a report by Sing Tao Daily, John Lee said in his speech at the finals and award presentation ceremony of the 16th Hong Kong Cup Diplomatic Knowledge Competition on Saturday (May 18) that the Hong Kong government will continue to deepen patriotic education and national security education. He said that the Working Group on Patriotic Education under the Constitution and Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee held its first meeting in April, established a clear direction, and promoted patriotic education in all aspects.

John Lee stated that he hopes principals and teachers will continue to actively promote the education of the "Constitution" and the "Basic Law" in schools, and work with the government and all sectors of society to promote mainstream values centered on patriotism and love for Hong Kong and compatible with the "One Country, Two Systems" policy.

He also encouraged students to continue to study hard, understand the country's national conditions, history, and culture, especially the major achievements and bright prospects of various undertakings in the new era, and contribute to the development of the country and Hong Kong.

According to another report by RTHK, John Lee also said at the event that the world today is complex and geopolitics are changeable. Some large economies often put politics in command, leading to protectionism, tense trade situations, and intensified divisions. He emphasized that as Chinese people, we should pay more attention to the country's new dynamics and new developments in international affairs, learn more about the country's new journey of comprehensively promoting major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, and think about how Hong Kong can better integrate into the overall development of the country and enhance Hong Kong's international competitiveness.
