Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, April 13. The Opening Ceremony of the inaugural "Hong Kong World Youth Science Conference" and the 2024 "Hong Kong Nobel Forum" were held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 13th. 7 Nobel Prize and Turing Award laureates from the United States, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway, Hungary, and other countries and regions, along with more than 20 academicians and scientists from home and abroad, gathered in Hong Kong to jointly discuss topics such as big data, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.
The event was organized by the Hong Kong Beijing Association of University Alumni, the Institute for Advanced Study of Tsinghua University, and the University of Hong Kong, with the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau of the HKSAR Government as the guiding unit.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee stated that the SAR government is fully committed to building a world-class open cooperation platform, promoting exchanges between the "government, industry, academia, and research" sectors in Hong Kong and around the world, and enhancing Hong Kong's status in international scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The SAR government will continue to make good use of its institutional and talent advantages to build an international innovation and technology center in Hong Kong, promote cooperation in innovation and technology undertakings between Hong Kong and the mainland and even the world, and contribute to the vigorous development of the country's new quality productive forces.
Liu Guangyuan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, stated that the conference is of great significance for Hong Kong to accelerate the construction of an international innovation and technology center and build a highland for international youth science and technology exchanges and cooperation. From the perspective of all mankind, science is the future, and youth are also the future. He shared three views: better understand China's actions and propositions in scientific and technological development; better understand Hong Kong's advantages and opportunities in scientific and technological development; and better understand the role and weight of youth in scientific and technological development.
At the conference, the launch ceremony of the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Joint Development Fund" was held. 31 enterprises from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation for development in Hong Kong with the Hong Kong Beijing Association of University Alumni, including enterprises from the Xiong'an New Area. The Hong Kong Beijing Association of University Alumni signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation with Cyberport and Hong Kong Science Park respectively.
According to reports, the inaugural "Hong Kong World Youth Science Conference" is held from the 13th to the 16th and mainly consists of four series of activities: the Opening Ceremony of the inaugural "Hong Kong World Youth Science Conference" and the 2024 "Hong Kong Nobel Forum"; the "2024 Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Sci-Tech Innovation Talent Development Summit" and "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Innovation and Technology Project Matchmaking Meeting"; the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Innovation and Technology Achievement Exhibition"; and the 2024 "Beijing-Xiong'an Sci-Tech Innovation Talents Hong Kong Tour" activity.
