
[Macao Daily News] The 2024 8th China Science Fiction Convention "Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Science Fiction Integration Forum" was held this afternoon at Shougang Park, Shijingshan, Beijing. The forum, themed "A New Chapter for Future Technology and Science Education", gathered science fiction writers, scientific and technological workers, educators, representatives of the innovation and technology industry, and innovative thinking leaders from Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland to jointly explore and look forward to the future development direction of technology and science fiction.
Bai Gengsheng, Vice President of the China Writers Association and President of the China Reportage Society; Meng Fanxing, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology; and Qian Hang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shijingshan District Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, attended the forum and delivered speeches.
The forum held a roundtable dialogue on "Science Fiction + Science Popularization: Igniting the Fire of Scientific and Technological Innovation in Primary and Secondary Schools in the Three Places". Kou Kam Fai and Mok Ian Ian spoke in this session respectively. Mok Ian Ian introduced the basic situation of the Macao Science Center and the science popularization activities carried out. The Macao Science Center is a National Science Popularization Education Base and a Scientist Spirit Education Base, with missions such as promoting youth science education, promoting science communication and high-tech. In addition to carrying out science education for the public and tourists, the Science Center has especially strengthened cooperation with the education department in recent years, making it an important off-campus classroom for students from kindergarten, primary school, junior high school to senior high school stages. For two consecutive years, the Macao Science Center and the China Writers Association jointly held the "Reading the Beauty of Science Fiction" event in Macao on World Book Day, inviting young science fiction writers from the Mainland to Macao to share science fiction literary creation, so as to stimulate teenagers' creativity and imagination of the world and ignite their passion for science and literature. In addition, the Macao Science Center launched cross-boundary cooperation with the Palace Museum, an important national cultural institution, for the first time, and co-hosted the "Discovering the Hall of Mental Cultivation" digital experience exhibition, exploring the inheritance, development and dissemination of excellent traditional Chinese culture with digital technology and innovative means as carriers, fully demonstrating the perfect integration of technology and culture, and promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture.
Kou Kam Fai stated that in basic education, especially in schools, what is taught is not just technological knowledge, but more importantly, technological literacy. He introduced the specific practices of Pui Ching Middle School in this regard. at the same time, he also introduced the work done in using technological means to help promote Chinese culture. Loving the country and Macao cannot remain on books. Students should use their eyes to see, ears to listen, hearts to feel, and brains to think.
In addition, Tam Kam Weng gave a keynote speech on "2000 Sailing Towards Macao Science Popularization". The determination of the Macao SAR Government to develop the cause of science and technology has pointed out the direction for Macao's scientific and technological development. The University of Macau, Macao Science Center and Macao primary and secondary schools join hands to play an active role in promoting science education and carrying forward the scientific spirit. He introduced the situation of science popularization exchange and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
