Hong Kong's primary school General Studies subject will be split into Humanities and Science subjects starting from the next school year. It was learned from the Education Bureau (EDB) of the HKSAR Government on the 8th that the Science curriculum will include content such as national aerospace and technological innovation, sustainable development concepts, earth science, engineering and design.

A spokesperson for the Education Bureau introduced that the Science subject will pilot the content of the new curriculum starting from the next school year. It will be implemented in Primary 1 and Primary 4 in the 2025/26 school year, extended to Primary 2 and Primary 5 in the 2026/27 school year, and fully implemented in the 2027/28 school year. The Education Bureau recommends that the annual Science curriculum for Primary 1 to Primary 2 be no less than 64 lessons, and for Primary 3 to Primary 6 be no less than 96 lessons per year.

The Education Bureau hopes that the new curriculum can cultivate students' ability to conduct scientific research.

It is understood that the Science subject is divided into four areas, namely "Life and Environment", "Matter, Energy and Change", "Earth and Space" and "Science, Technology, Engineering and Society", focusing on cultivating students' abilities in scientific research, design and production, and problem solving. The Education Bureau will set up a "Primary School Science Teacher Training Base" and launch a 30-hour "Certificate Course on Primary Science Teacher Training" and a 15-hour "Certificate Course on Primary Science Curriculum Leadership Training" to help teachers master relevant teaching skills as soon as possible.
