Program Overview: To enhance Hong Kong youth's understanding of cultural heritage protection work and museum undertakings in the Mainland and promote cultural exchange, while cultivating work skills, accumulating work experience and broadening horizons through internships to further promote local youth's understanding of world cultural heritage.

Program Overview

To enhance Hong Kong youth's understanding of cultural heritage protection work and museum undertakings in the Mainland and promote cultural exchange, while cultivating work skills, accumulating work experience and broadening horizons through internships to further promote local youth's understanding of world cultural heritage, the Hong Kong Volunteers Association will organize a 6-week "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Palace Museum Internship Program 2023". Recruitment of interns starts immediately, allowing young people to go to The Palace Museum in Beijing for internships.

This activity is funded by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and fully supported by The Palace Museum in Beijing. The activity is also one of the projects of the "Thematic Internship Programme for Young People to the Mainland", providing 16 internship positions at The Palace Museum for local tertiary students to participate in a 6-week internship. In addition to Hong Kong interns, interns from Guangdong Province and Macau will also be arranged to participate together. Students participating in the internship program will be arranged to intern in different departments of The Palace Museum, such as the Publicity and Education Department, Cultural and Creative Business Department, Court History Department, Painting and Calligraphy Department, Ancient Architecture Department, etc., to gain valuable experience. The opportunity is very rare.

Activity Details

Recruitment Date: From now until May 14, 2023

Internship Date: July 14 to August 26, 2023 (44 days in total, the first 3 days are for going to Guangzhou to start team building with interns from Guangdong Province and Macau)

Quota: 16

Target: Participants must be full-time students of local tertiary institutions aged 18-30; university or tertiary institution students suitable for the plan can come from different departments, including English, History, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Digital Media, Art, Sociology and Marketing, etc. (For details of each position and academic requirements, please refer to "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Youth Palace Museum Internship Program 2023 Internship Position Details"); Hold a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card; Fluent in Putonghua and have good communication skills.

Pre-internship Briefing Session

To allow participants to have a better understanding of the internship positions and arrangements related to the plan before departure, the Association will hold a briefing session, tentatively scheduled for late June 2023 (Exact date will be announced later)

Fees and Deposit

Fees: The costs of high-speed rail, air tickets, accommodation, insurance, and supporting activities during the period are all sponsored by the organizer.

Deposit: Selected participants are required to pay a deposit of HK$2,000. The deposit will be fully refunded after the participants complete the entire internship and supporting activities, including submitting sharing thoughts and attending various pre/post-internship sharing sessions.

Activity Report and Sharing

  1. Participants must submit thoughts and photos within 1 month after the completion of the internship program to produce a sharing booklet;
  2. Participants must attend the post-internship sharing session to share their gains and bits and pieces during the internship.

Eligibility and Important Notes

  1. Age must be between 18 and 30, and be full-time students of local tertiary institutions.
  2. Participants must hold a valid Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card and a valid Home Return Permit.
  3. Participants must complete the entire 6-week internship program.
  4. Any application forms and supplementary information submitted after the application deadline will not be processed.
  5. The organizer reserves the right to change the content of this plan. In case of any dispute, the organizer reserves the right of final decision.
