On May 24, the 2023 China Science and Technology Summit with the theme of "Innovation Drives Diversified Development of Macau's Economy" opened at the University of Macau. Zhang Guihua, Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and Tai Kin Ip, representative of the Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government and Director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. More than 200 representatives of science and technology workers from the mainland and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau industry, academia, and research sectors attended.
Zhang Guihua stated that CAST will join hands with Hong Kong and Macau science and technology organizations and workers to explore innovative cooperation models for gathering talents, establish a normalized exchange mechanism between top scientists and Macau, and promote in-depth cooperation between enterprises in both places; establish a focused organized ecological mechanism, further substantiate the "Innovation China" Greater Bay Area Consortium, build a number of connecting technology innovation and transformation centers, and assist Macau in developing scientific and technological research and development and high-end manufacturing industries; expand the deep integration channel of science, technology, and economy where elements converge, and strive to explore in resource sharing, joint tackling of key problems, transformation of achievements, and connection of rules, stimulate the innovation vitality of all sectors of society, and realize the smooth flow of scientific and technological elements.
Tai Kin Ip stated that the Macao SAR Government is taking the accelerated development of high-tech industries as a core task, injecting new elements into the moderately diversified and sustainable development of Macau's economy. He pointed out that this summit helps to build an exchange and cooperation platform for the industry, academia, and research sectors to display technology, share experiences, and explore frontiers, and promote the integration and transformation of more innovative resources and elements in Macau. It is expected that through this summit, new opportunities will be brought to the development of Macau's science and technology industry, and the Greater Bay Area will be promoted to cultivate fertile soil for scientific and technological innovation.
In the keynote report session of the summit, Chen Xiangmei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, and Professor of the General Hospital of the PLA; Yu Chengbin, President of the Macau Association for Promotion of Science and Technology Industry and President of the Institute of Microelectronics of the University of Macau; and Wang Zhonglin, Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director and Chief Scientist of the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made reports titled "Big Data Drives Precise Diagnosis and Treatment of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine", "Building a Collaborative Ecosystem for the Semiconductor Industry Chain in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area", and "The Whole Chain from Original Scientific Discovery to Industrial Clusters" respectively. At the same time, 8 experts including Ge Wei, Vice Rector of the University of Macau, and Xing Xinhui, Professor of Shenzhen International Graduate School of Tsinghua University, conducted high-level dialogues around gathering momentum and empowering the construction of the Greater Bay Area. The forum also set up two parallel sub-forums with the themes of "Creating an 'Industry + Scientific Research' Ecosystem and Creating a 'Diversity + Innovation' Economic Future" and "Promoting the Integrated Development of 'Four Chains' and Promoting the Leap of Industrial Energy Level". Nearly 20 experts and scholars from relevant fields in the mainland and Macau conducted exchanges and discussions and offered advice and suggestions.
The online project roadshow session was held synchronously with the parallel forums, inviting technology and innovation enterprises to participate, fully displaying the innovation achievements of the mainland and Macau.
This summit was jointly hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Macao SAR Government, and organized by the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the Department of Science and Technology Innovation of the China Association for Science and Technology, the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office of the China Association for Science and Technology, and the China Science and Technology Press, together with the Macau Association for Promotion of Science and Technology, the "Innovation China" Consortium and other units.
